Sunday 8th September 2014 – Pentecost 16C (5)

God of time and space,

in the celebration of Your holy meal,

You have lifted us from this time and space

into the infinite embrace

of Your eternal presence.

In that embrace

You have sought to remind us of our relationship

to You,

to each other,

and to the world.

We give thanks for Your call upon our lives,

as You seek to enhance

all we offer with wisdom and courage.

Leader of our lives,

with all our freedom

You are the guide of who we are

and all we might become in your name,

enable us to choose love over hatred,

life over death,

light over darkness.

and in doing so,

may we Your church proclaim

the story of Your goodness

through all life.

We pray for those who are confused by the choices

of the world.

With so much choice

it can be hard to find direction.

We pray for those who hare called to make decisions:

politicians and business leaders.

We remember those

who offer opinions whether in person,

or through a variety of media.

We pray for teachers and those who shape young minds,

that they portray the breadth of the world in which we live.

We give thanks for our homes and loved ones,

the places and people

who offer us security

and the ability to think for ourselves.

And we remember those

who do not know the love of a family

or the warmth of a home.

Where people are neglected,

may the richness of Your blessing burst into life.

We pray for the insecurity of life,

where people live uncertain of when they will next eat,

or if there will be a job tomorrow.

We pray for the uncertainty of relationships,

torn about by ill-health or loss.

May this world exhibit signs of Your strength and courage.

Drawing our prayers to a close,

we give You thanks for those who have exhibited

the glimpses of Your glory

and shared their faith with us.

May we draw strength

from those who have known You

and lived amongst us

in Christ’s name.
Amen.
