Sunday 10th September 2017 – Pentecost 14A

Back on the lectionary, and using bits of my own writing along with other people’s to form a communion service.   These are mine.

Call to Worship

Praising the Lord,

we sing.

In the sanctuary of ancient stories and traditions

new words and songs

form on our lips,

to rejoice in the Maker.

With instrument and movement,

we discover the Lord’s delight

in the creation around.

May the praise of God pour from our mouths,

pushing aside vengeance

and punishment;

freeing the constraints of this world

to take our place in the humility of heaven.

May we glory in the Lord.

Let us worship God…

Opening Prayer

Sentinel of heaven,

who watches through the day and night,

You cast Your eyes across all life

that all You have made

may find peace and fruitfulness

within Your care.

You call us to listen to Your voice

for in the words You offer,

You inspire hope and compassion,

shaping and building a community

where the vulnerable are placed at the centre

of all of life

and offered the assurance

of their worth and value.

Your attention calls out

the best qualities within each life

that the creation might sing with the harmony

of Your kingdom.

Our eyes flit and skim

not nothing the detail of the world we live in.

We are easily distracted

by our latest whim

or the attraction of the moment.

We long to ensure that all voices are heard,

and yet we recognise within ourselves

the desire for our voice

to be the one that holds the attention of others

and our needs met.

Patient Shepherd,

who walks amidst our foolishness

Your forgiveness

and assurance of belonging

is for all.

May we live as those

who watch for the vulnerable

and respond with Your love

that all may take their place within You embrace.

Sunday 31st January – Epiphany 4C

Call to Worship

In the Lord,

we seek a place of refuge,

as a rescue from all that weighs us down is offered,

and an ear is turned to hear our pleas.

As our rock and place of strength,

the Lord is always with us,

leading us from challenging thoughts and people.

The Lord is our hope,

the confidence that listens and builds up,

with us from our shipping within the womb,

that in the first cries of birth

we may give praise to the Divine Presence.

Let us worship God…

Sunday 13th September 2015 – Pentecost 16B

Call to Worship

The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

Day and night spill out all they know of the Creator,

and without spoken word,

or language that divides,

they share the knowledge and wisdom

across the world

to the ends of the earth.

Under the canopy of heaven

the Lord gathers all people together,

that they might witness his creating and sustaining care

of all He surveys.

The words of common and law He offers

are celestial lights

that offer the freedom

to live acknowledging

that all life is precious,

and that God’s grace is the nectar

on which we are to be fed.

In the presence of the Lord,

let us meditate upon HIs word and work,

and feast upon His grace,

that the life in which we share

may speak of the Lord

and his compassion, mercy and inspiration.

Sunday 28th June 2015 – Pentecost 5B

Call to Worship

Let us not be consumed by the wailings of our hearts

and the angry thoughts that sometimes threaten,

for the Lord’s great love never fails.

New compassion is to be found each day

as the Lord reveals faithfulness

in the activities of our lives.

Let us seek after the Lord

for in Him our hope is restored.

In the quietness of this time

may we be reminded of the Lord’s saving grace,

that lifts us from the dust of our disgrace

to the light of His compassion.

Sunday 21st June 2015 – Pentecost 4B

Call to Worship

Give thanks to God, for He is good.

His love endures forever.

Let those who have been tossed about in the tempest,

who found their courage melt,

who reeled and staggered

and found themselves at their winds end,

come and cry to the Lord,

for He hears their cries.

Whispering to the wind,

hushing the waves,

the Lord brings calm

and a guides the distressed to a safe haven.

Let us give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love,

and exalt Him in the presence of all people.

Sunday 14th June 2015 – Pentecost 3B

Call to Worship

It is good to praise the Lord Most High,

and make music to His name

Let us proclaim the love of the Lord in the morning,

and His faithfulness at night.

With organ and voice,

rustling, shuffling and accidental percussion,

may the music of our lives

find a harmony

that allows others to hear

the presence of heaven.

May we flourish in the presence of the Lord,

and grow within this Holy Place

to bear the fruit of an age

spent in the grace of God,

knowing that He is our rock

and the path in which we can trust.

Sunday 7th June 2015 – Pentecost 2B

Call to Worship

Out of the depths of our lives
we cry to the Lord,
who offers an attentive ear.
The Lord keeps no record of wrongs,
and instead removes our fears
by offering forgiveness.

As we wait on the Lord,
and listen for his Word,
our souls wait patiently,
oping that the Holy presence will restore us.

As we worship the Lord,
His unfailing love and saving presence
restores our faith and hope,
and prepares for the work
of the Holy Spirit.

Let us worship the Lord.
